Madrid Literario
For this blog I just wanted to reflect on how different places may appear to us when we give it a try again. So, there is this assignment for BYU that any study abroad student or intern in Spain must complete. The tour is called “Madrid Literario,” and I am not sure what the title has to do with the tour. I figured out the significance once I did the tour on my own for a 2ndtime. Literary is a term in English that has to do with literature or writers. Well, “literario” means the exact same thing which is “literary.”
This tour is provided with a 6-page double spaced word document that explains where to go and how to accomplish the Madrid literary tour. The first time I performed this tour was a while back sometime around October 2017 during the evening. I remember that day clearly, I was living with my host family Antonio and Angelines at the time. Angelines made me a sandwich for my trip to Madrid. I left Alcala de Henares by train and arrived in Sol and started the tour in Plaza Mayor. Since it was dark during the evening, I was trying to complete the tour as fast as I can. My favorite part of the tour was when I was eating my sandwich. I was enjoying this Spanish music being played, watching people eat dinner in the Plaza of Santa Ana and I was marveling at the sight of the Hotel Victoria and the Theater that is located on the opposite side of the plaza. It was a great day.
When it came to do this tour a second time, for some strange reason I was able to notice the historical importance of the tour. I honestly do not know what I was thinking when I did it the first time. So, some important things I saw during the tour for the 2ndtime was witness where Miguel Cervantes and Lope de Vega used to live in Madrid. I also saw where they died and where they are now buried. It was very epic to witness this for a second time because Miguel Cervantes and Lope de Vega are very famous and influential writers from Spain. William Shakespeare is another legendary writer who was alive at the time when these two men were around. There are other famous writers that I did not mention who are also highlighted in that part of Madrid. I need to go some more research about them. With that said, it was a great experience and I definitely have the facts right. I know the path so well that I can provide a personal tour to my family and friends who may have interest in getting to know that part of Madrid.
