Tenerife Sur

When most people talk about places that have the best weather and places that are most comfortable, the places that come to everyone’s debate is usually Southern California, Florida, Hawaii and Baja California Mexico areas. I remember that I was convinced that the best state in the US was California for its diverse population of people and diverse climate. With that said, I argued mainly about how Southern California had the best weather in majority of the world. That turned out to be the case after visiting other parts of the United States and being to experience different weather zones.
My idea of how Southern California has the best weather changed when I went to the Canary Islands. During my mission, Tenerife became my fourth area where I would serve. I learned quickly that there are seven islands. Recently, it is said that an eight island was added to the collection of seven. The Canary Islands has something called “micro climas” where there are drastic changes with the weather within such a small space of change. One example is using Tenerife. The north of the island has more green and higher chances of receiving rain or maybe some cold winds. The southern part of the island is literally like a dessert. The weather is different just by driving down from the north one hour to the southern part of the island.
And, when I served my time on the island of Tenerife as a missionary, I learned to love the weather and also to enjoy how beautiful and calm the island is. The Canary Islands in general is a vacation spot for the whole European continent. It is like the United States version of Hawaii.
In terms of how my trip went, I arrived on the northern part of the island around 8PM and was picked up by some mutual friends who drove me down to the southern part of the island. I probably arrived in Los Cristianos, the city where I was staying, around 9:30PM. I immediately checked in with Airbnb and had late night dinner with some friends that I knew from the island. On Saturday I spent my whole day enjoying the beach and the good weather. I took advantage of that day and met with people I met and knew when I was a missionary. It was great. I also made a return trip back to Money Park. A monkey zoo that has an area where you can feed and take pictures with a select few of monkeys. On Sunday, I spent the majority of that day at a water park called Siam Park. It is voted as Europe’s best water park in the area. I heard that Raging Waters was a big competition with Siam Park. Siam Park was extremely fun, and I loved every minute of it. Later that Sunday I had dinner with another friend and love was good. On Monday, I went to see a couple of other things in the area and then that was it.
I flew out of the Southern airport of Tenerife. I managed to get a deal to fly in the northern airport and fly out of the southern airport. It was a good deal. I had a blast and realized how awesome Tenerife is and the Canary Islands. I look forward to returning someday.

Medieval Madrid Blog

This is the last Madrid walk assignment that is required to complete all of the official Madrid walking tour assignments. I would like to say that this Madrid walk has a lot more history to process within such a small frame of areas that you will see. This is the second time I have attempted to complete this assignment. This first time I went through this walk was with my Study Abroad group and we had a hard time understanding where to go or how to complete everything. After doing it for a second time in a row, I am glad to say that it was easier and doing it a second time makes it more familiar.
Unfortunately, I am not able to summarize fully what I went to see and what was explored in depth. I think it is very interesting to think about Madrid as a little city that once had walls surrounding it similar to that way Avila is formed and many other small ancient villages in Madrid. The pictures taken of this area will definitely give a better idea of what my experience was like.
